Fakultas Teknik Unhas Dampingi Pembuatan Alat Pengubah Sampah Jadi BBM pada Program Bina Desa
The Student Affairs Division of the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) organized the “Bina Desa Tematik Covid-19” program, which focused on Lagaruda Village, Sanrobone Subdistrict, Takalar Regency. The program ran from March 19, 2021, through Sunday, April 4, 2021.
“Village Development” is an annual program of the Unhas Student Affairs Division, the implementation of which is entrusted to each respective faculty. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Mukti Ali, ST., MT., Ph.D., explained that this Village Development Program remains closely tied to the response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the effects on the fishermen of Lagaruda Village.
Mukti noted that fishermen in the village have experienced a decline in income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the FT Unhas stepped in to provide a solution for the fishermen by converting beach plastic waste into fuel oil (BBM), which the fishermen can use to support their daily activities.
“This initiative consists of several components, such as environmental awareness campaigns, the construction of waste-to-fuel conversion equipment, and workshops on how to use the equipment to convert waste into fuel. We marked the culmination of our Bina Desa program with the handover of the plastic waste-to-fuel conversion equipment to the community,” explained Mukti.
Furthermore, Mukti explained that the Bina Desa program is part of the responsibility of the Unhas academic community to provide solutions to community problems. The innovative device introduced by the Unhas Faculty of Engineering can convert beach plastic waste into petroleum through a process of combustion, filtration, and cooling, which produces oil from the vapor generated by burning the waste.
The residents of Lagaruda Village warmly welcomed the FT Unhas Village Development Program. They hope this program can be implemented on a regular basis and receive active support so that they can work together to find solutions to various problems faced by the community, particularly in Lagaruda Village.
