Brief History

The Faculty of Engineering (FT) is one of the faculties at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Makassar, established in 1960. At that time, UNHAS was still located in Baraya. The primary mission behind the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering was to provide opportunities for young people from various regions to pursue higher education, thereby meeting the growing demand for qualified engineering professionals.

Initially, the Faculty of Engineering's curriculum consisted of a single curriculum with a limited number of elective courses. This curriculum underwent various changes and developments beginning in 1963, including the transition from the Undergraduate Program, the six-year Bachelor's Degree Program, to the Strata One (S1) Program.

In 1985, the Faculty of Engineering of Hasanuddin University moved to the Tamalanrea Campus. The Faculty occupied the first floor of the main building as well as part of the Heavy Laboratory building. At the same time, new laboratory equipment was procured to support academic and practical activities. For ten years, from 1986 to 1996, the Faculty of Engineering participated in the Engineering Acceleration Project (Proyek Percepatan Insinyur/PPI), which aimed to increase the productivity of graduates.

When the Faculty of Engineering was first established at Hasanuddin University on September 10, 1960, it consisted of only three departments: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering. Subsequently, the Faculty of Engineering expanded to six departments by establishing the Departments of Electrical Engineering, Architecture, and Geological Engineering, with a total of 23 study programs.

As Hasanuddin University's Faculty of Engineering continued to develop, an additional Faculty of Engineering campus was established at the Gowa Engineering Campus. The campus was officially inaugurated by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Jusuf Kalla, on June 23, 2018.

Today, the Faculty of Engineering offers 13 undergraduate departments, 6 Master's degree programs, 5 Doctoral degree programs, and 1 Professional Engineer Education Program (PPI).
