A Proud Achievement! Unhas FT Taekwondo Athletes Dominate the Podium with 14 Medals at the Makassar Open Series 3 Mayor’s Championship
Students from the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering (FT Unhas) have once again achieved a proud accomplishment in sports by winning 14 medals at the Makassar Mayor’s Championship Open Series 3. In the championship, which was attended by approximately 1,600 athletes from various provinces in Eastern Indonesia, the Faculty of Engineering contingent brought home 3 gold medals and 11 silver medals in the Kyorugi and Poomsae events, further solidifying FT Unhas’s reputation as a faculty that not only excels academically but also actively produces students who excel in non-academic fields.
The Makassar Open Series 3 Mayor’s Championship was officially opened by the Head of the Makassar City Youth and Sports Agency, Syamsul Bahri, S.IP., M.Si., representing the Mayor of Makassar. This event is one of the largest taekwondo competitions in Eastern Indonesia, aimed at strengthening athlete development, improving the quality of competition, and providing a platform for athletes to gauge their abilities while advancing their achievements to higher levels.
The participation of approximately 1,600 athletes from various regions demonstrates the high level of enthusiasm for this championship. In addition to serving as a competitive arena, this event also provides an opportunity to strengthen bonds among athletes, coaches, and sports professionals, while reaffirming Makassar’s position as one of the leading centers for hosting sporting events in Eastern Indonesia—a role that supports the development of sports tourism and the training of high-achieving athletes.
In the Kyorugi event, gold medals were won by Nur Misbah Muhiddin from the Civil Engineering Program, Class of 2023 and Shovie Lintang Priadi from the Marine Systems Engineering Program, Class of 2024. Meanwhile, silver medals were won by Muh. Aiman (Marine Engineering, Class of 2023), Andi Baso Pawawoi (Civil Engineering, Class of 2023), A. Afifah Azzahrah (Marine Systems Engineering, Class of 2024), Nurul Syamsi Ramadhani (Regional and Urban Planning, Class of 2022), Bunga Dewi Fathia (Civil Engineering, Class of 2024), M. Hardian Jusuf Herdiansyah (Computer Science, Class of 2021), and Ritwan Sanda Padang (Marine Engineering, Class of 2023).
Meanwhile, in the Poomsae event, the gold medal was won by Nurul Syamsi Ramadhani from the Regional and Urban Planning Program, Class of 2022. The silver medals were won by Bunga Dewi Fathia (Civil Engineering, Class of 2024), Fauziah Sabitha Zahra (Marine Engineering, Class of 2024), Rima as part of the Poomsae Team (Regional and Urban Planning, Class of 2021), and Aiyla Zyva Ramadhani (Civil Engineering, Class of 2025).
These achievements are the result of consistent coaching and training.
The athletes underwent intensive preparation to improve their technical skills, physical conditioning, competition strategies, and mental readiness before competing in the championships. In the Kyorugi category, athletes are required to demonstrate speed, quick decision-making, and the ability to attack and defend effectively. Meanwhile, in the Poomsae category, judging focuses on the accuracy of movements, balance, strength, rhythm, and technical mastery, all of which must be executed with precision.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., AER., expressed his appreciation and congratulations to all students who successfully brought honor to the Faculty of Engineering at the Makassar Mayor’s Championship Open Series 3. According to him, this achievement is the result of the athletes’ hard work, discipline, and commitment to balancing academic and non-academic achievements.
