Evacuation of Flood Victims at BTN Bumi Batara Mawang
The FTUH RESCUE Team deployed two rubber boats (from the Department of Geological Engineering and the Department of Ocean Engineering) to evacuate flood victims at BTN Bumi Batara Mawang.
On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at approximately 3:30 p.m. WITA, members of the Hasanuddin University Security Unit, Faculty of Engineering, Gowa, along with the UNHAS special security task force led by Sabaruddin Rahman, Ph.D. (Marine Engineering) and Dr-Eng. Asri Jaya (Geological Engineering), assisted in the evacuation of residents of the Batara Mawang housing complex, which was submerged under 1.5 to 2 meters of floodwater.
Two rubber boats belonging to the Department of Geological Engineering and the Department of Ocean Engineering, as well as one fire truck, were used to transport residents and their belongings to a safer evacuation site set up by the residents. As of 9:00 p.m. WITA, the evacuation process was still ongoing. The evacuation team is still searching for one missing resident, and one person has been reported dead.
