FGD Between the Faculty of Engineering, UNHAS, and the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment: Preparations for the Launch of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy and Materials
The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FTUH), through the Vice Rector for Partnerships, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business at Hasanuddin University (Vice Rector for Area 4, Unhas), in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (MenkoMarves), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in preparation for the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy and Materials by FTUH. This FGD was attended by Unhas partners from the Provincial Governments of Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi, as well as representatives from the mining industry in those regions, including PT. VALE Indonesia, PT. Indonesia Marowali Industrial Park, PT. Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry, and others. Speakers at the FGD included the Coordination Deputy Team for Infrastructure and Transportation under MenkoMarves, the Dean of FTUH, and the Working Group for the Launch of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy and Materials at FTUH.
This hybrid FGD was officially opened by Unhas’s Vice Rector for Research and Community Service (WR-4), Prof. Adi Maulana, in Meeting Room A on the 4th floor of the Unhas Rectorate on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. In his remarks to the FGD participants—both in-person and online—Prof. Adi Maulana stated that the effort to launch and operate the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy & Materials at Unhas is a concrete manifestation of Unhas’s commitment to making a more significant contribution to the supply of human resources in the field of metallurgy and materials to meet the needs of the mining industry in Eastern Indonesia. “In addition to this Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy and Materials, Unhas will soon launch a D4 Vocational Program in Metallurgy,” said Prof. Adi Maulana. The Coordination Team for Infrastructure and Transportation under the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, through its Team Leader, Ms. A. Yulianti Ramli, stated that the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment has helped initiate and encourage Unhas to promptly address the challenges of meeting human resource and labor needs for the mining industry in Eastern Indonesia.
On the same occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FTUH), Prof. Isran Ramli, outlined the progress in preparing to launch the Bachelor’s Degree (S1) Program in Metallurgy & Materials at FTUH, noting that the Unhas Board of Trustees (MWA) has approved the establishment and operation of this program. “Currently, following the approval by the Unhas Board of Trustees, Unhas—through the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs (WR-1)—will propose an enrollment quota for the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy and Materials to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, while simultaneously processing the application for minimum accreditation for this program with BAN-PT/LAMTEK,” concluded Prof. Isran.
During this FGD, the Task Force for the Establishment of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Metallurgy & Materials, chaired by Dr. Syahid Arsyad, presented the program’s vision, mission, and curriculum. During the discussion session, FGD participants from the business and industrial sectors expressed their commitment to supporting and collaborating in the implementation of the Metallurgy and Materials program at Unhas, ranging from the educational process to the future employment of graduates.
