Highlights of the 58th Anniversary of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering

South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah, along with his Deputy Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, attended the climax of the 58th anniversary celebration of the Unhas Gowa Faculty of Engineering, which took place in a festive atmosphere on the grounds of Unhas Engineering Campus II in Borongloe, Bontomarannu Subdistrict, Gowa Regency. The anniversary celebration was preceded by a variety of faculty activities that began a month ago, including a leisurely walk, entertainment, and a coloring contest for children. As part of the pre-anniversary activities, the university held a one-day open campus featuring exhibitions, cultural performances, a bazaar, an inaugural lecture, workshops, and seminars. This open campus event was attended by the general public and high school students, in addition to the 1,104 freshmen of the Unhas Gowa Faculty of Engineering. Meanwhile, South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah delivered a speech amid the festivities of the 58th anniversary. Addressing the entire Unhas Faculty of Engineering community, Governor Nurdin expressed his hope that the campus—built on the site of a former paper factory in Gowa—would continue to grow and, ideally, become an institute in South Sulawesi. Speaking before the entire FT Unhas community, Governor Nurdin expressed his hope that the campus—built on the site of a former paper factory in Gowa—would continue to grow and, ideally, become an institute in South Sulawesi. He even compared this Unhas engineering campus to other major universities anywhere in the country. “Just as Java has the Bandung Institute, the eastern region must also have its own institute. Hopefully, this Unhas Engineering Campus II can be elevated to the status of an institute,” said Governor Nurdin, greeted by thunderous applause from the faculty members and students in attendance. Meanwhile, according to the Dean of the Unhas Gowa Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Arsyad Thaha, M.T., the highlight of the anniversary celebration—themed “Strengthening Technology Innovation”—was a special moment due to the presence of the new Governor and Vice Governor of South Sulawesi. Muhammad Arsyad explained that currently, the Unhas Faculty of Engineering is no longer competing with domestic universities but with foreign ones. “We are currently pursuing internationalization efforts aimed at producing knowledgeable individuals of good character. That is why we are improving all our systems to enhance the quality of our graduates. We must produce science and technology because we are part of community development. Therefore, we have a duty to serve the community. This campus must serve as a model for a ‘smart’ university in Indonesia with good governance,” said Muhammad Arsyad. Present at the event were South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah and his deputy, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, accompanied by Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, M.A., and the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering in Gowa, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Arsyad Thaha, M.T.
