Inauguration of the Kalla Dormitory for FT-UH Students
On Wednesday, August 14, 2019, the Kalla Group officially handed over 10 blocks of student dormitory units, each with a capacity of 22 rooms and a total capacity of 810 people, to be used by incoming freshmen at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (Unhas). Speaking on behalf of Kalla Group, Achmad Kalla stated that Kalla Group, through PT. Bukaka Poso Energy, provided this donation as a token of appreciation for the achievements and contributions of Unhas alumni who have worked diligently and brought pride to the company.
Meanwhile, in her remarks, Unhas Rector Prof. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the Kalla Group for the student dormitory donation. According to Prof. Dwia, Unhas, as an institution, has roles and responsibilities that cannot be fulfilled without the support and cooperation of industry and the community.
“As a higher education institution committed to making greater contributions to humanitarian and societal aspects—as embodied in our taglines ‘humaniversity’ and ‘communiversity’—Unhas is actively engaged in building students’ character. Through the ‘boarding’ program, which began this year in the Faculty of Engineering (FT), we will gradually expand it to all faculties in accordance with the capacity of Unhas’s existing student dormitories or low-cost housing,” explained Prof. Dwia.
At the same event, the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, M. Arsyad, reported in his address that the 10 dormitory blocks have already begun to be occupied by new students. Specifically, this is for the “boarding” activities as part of the USLA (University Student Leadership Academy) program.
“It is hoped that this USLA program will equip new students with soft skills. This training is not merely academic in nature but will intensively and consistently emphasize the maritime character of Unhas,” said Arsyad.
The event concluded with the signing of the inauguration plaque by Kalla Group President and CEO Solihin Jusuf Kalla and the handover of keys from Kalla Group to the Rector of Unhas and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas.
