The Green Campus Movement in the Faculty of Engineering

As part of its efforts to promote a green campus movement, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University carried out a tree-planting initiative involving 1,000 trees, including rambutan, nutmeg, durian, ketapang, and other species. “The activity focused on four aspects: Green Environment, Waste Treatment, Energy Saving, and Zero Emission,” said Dr. Ir. Saiful, S.T., M.T., IPM, Chair of the organizing committee for this event.

The event, held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, was attended by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, the Dean, the Associate Deans, the Department Chairs, the Commander of Military District 03 Bontomarannu, the Chief of the Bontomarannu Police Precinct, faculty members, staff, and students.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Arsyad Thaha, M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas, emphasized that through this tree-planting initiative, the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas is contributing to the preservation of nature and the environment for the future. This effort will help realize the vision of a green, healthy, clean, fresh, and comfortable campus.

The Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Dr. drg. A. Arsunan Arsin, M.Kes, also emphasized that trees growing on campus are crucial. They provide shade and a cool, refreshing atmosphere, which plays a vital role in creating a healthy campus and regulating the circulation of clean air throughout the campus.

The event began with a leisurely walk, followed by Tobelo calisthenics, and concluded with a symbolic tree-planting ceremony led by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, the Associate Deans of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, the Chair of the Event Committee, the Commander of Military District 03 Bontomarannu, and the Chief of the Bontomarannu Police Precinct.
