To Enhance International Collaboration, Hasanuddin University’s Faculty of Engineering Hosts ICAST 2023.

The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University once again held The International Student Conference on Advanced Science and Technology (ICAST) 2023, which opened on Monday, September 18, 2023, on the 2nd floor of the CSA LT1 building at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University.

The event was officially opened by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., and featured a welcoming speech by the President of Kumamoto University, Prof. Ogawa Hisao, and the Dean of the Graduate School of Science and Technology at Kumamoto University, Fujimoto Hitoshi. The event was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng.; the Vice Dean for Research Partnerships and Innovation, Dr. Ir. Rustan Tarakka, S.T., M.T., IPM., AER.; the Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Eng. Ir. Dewiani, M.T., and the Manager of PLN ULP Sungguminasa, Ir. Iin Trisnawati, S.T., M.T. Attending online was Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Syafaruddin, S.T., M.Eng., IPU.

This year’s ICAST will run for three days through September 20, 2023, with participants from three countries: Indonesia, Japan, and India. Meanwhile, the speakers hail from four countries: Indonesia, Japan, India, and China. A total of 42 papers will be presented at this conference.

In collaboration with Kumamoto University, ICAST featured two keynote speakers from Japan: Kumamoto University’s Vice President for Global Education, Prof. Mitsuyo Kishida, and Assoc. Prof. Hajime Miyauchi.

In his opening remarks, the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., stated that ICAST is not merely an event but also a platform for collaboration aimed at strengthening science and technology. Prof. JJ also expressed hope that this occasion would benefit participants both in terms of their careers and future professional networks.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in organizing ICAST 2023 and hoped that this event would serve as a platform for participants with an interest in research to contribute to advancing excellence in science and technology.

Following the opening remarks and ceremony, the event continued with presentations by the guest speakers and paper presentations by the participants. The event also included a field trip to introduce the Makassar area and its surroundings to international participants.
