Unhas Engineering Student Wins Second Place in National Unmanned Speedboat Contest

A team of students from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Hasanuddin University has once again achieved a proud accomplishment by winning second place in the Patrol Boat Design category at the prestigious “2021 National Unmanned High-Speed Boat Contest (KKCTBN).”

The contest was organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) at Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) and took place from Wednesday, October 20, 2021, through Saturday, October 23, 2021.

The 2021 Unmanned Fast Vessel Contest (KKCTBN) is one of the key initiatives of the Student Affairs Division at Puspresnas Kemendikbudristek, aimed at fostering innovative design concepts, prototype development, and performance testing of submarine and surface vessel prototypes equipped with digital technology.

Additionally, the event fosters and trains students to be creative, innovative, and productive in developing technological design innovations, building prototypes, and participating in performance competitions for submarines and surface vessels; it also cultivates a spirit of nationalism and patriotism to safeguard the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia and trains students in teamwork.

The Unhas delegation was represented by Team Marina 09. The team’s success was achieved thanks to support from various parties, as well as thorough preparation. The team was mentored by Unhas Naval Architecture lecturer Dr. Samsul Asri, who guided them through the preparation of the proposal, the design process for the competing vessel, and the preparation of the presentation.

In an interview on Monday (October 25, 2021), the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships at the Faculty of Engineering, Mukti Ali, ST, MT, PhD, extended his congratulations and appreciation to Team Marina 09 for their proud achievement.

The team successfully navigated the intense competition—which involved students from all over Indonesia—with satisfying results.

“Faculty and department leadership always provide full support to students involved in high-achieving activities. The faculty provides creative spaces to encourage students to channel their interests and talents by establishing various Special Groups (KK) in each department that prepare students to compete in their respective fields of expertise,” said Mukti Ali.

Both the faculty and the university will continue to support and facilitate students participating in competitions by providing both financial and moral support. This reflects the FT Unhas’ commitment to championing our beloved alma mater on both the national and international stages.

“This achievement marks the end of a long wait for Unhas, as we’ve finally secured the champion title—a distinction that had eluded us for a long time in the KKCTBN competition. It also serves as an inspiration for other students to be more enthusiastic, especially in competitions within their fields of expertise,” said Mukti Ali.

The Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships expressed his hope that the Faculty of Engineering will continue to create opportunities and support students who participate in various competitions and contests—both national and international—as well as other positive activities. This will allow students to develop their interests, talents, and critical thinking skills in line with their respective fields of study. (*/dhs).
