Unhas Faculty of Engineering Welcomes Exchange Students from Saga University in Japan

Gowa, September 9, 2025 — The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) officially welcomed a group of incoming exchange students from Saga University, Japan, as part of the Short-Term Internship and Summer Program, which runs from September 8 to 23, 2025.

A total of 8 students from various degree levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D.) and academic programs—including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Engineering—participated in this program. They were accompanied by two faculty members: Prof. Hideo Oshikawa and Dr. Yuichiro Mishima from the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Saga University.

The official welcome ceremony for the delegation was held in the Dean’s Office of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Center of Technology (CoT) Building, Unhas FT Campus in Bontomarannu, Gowa Regency, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The visit by the Saga University delegation marks an important milestone in strengthening academic ties between the two universities.

For more than two weeks, the students and accompanying faculty members will participate in a series of academic and enrichment activities. The agenda includes guest lectures by faculty members from Unhas and Saga University, collaborative workshops on engineering and cross-cultural topics, visits to laboratories and research groups in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Computer Engineering, as well as field trips to various infrastructure sites, environmental areas, and urban development zones around Makassar. The program will conclude with student presentations summarizing their learning outcomes and experiences during their time at Unhas.

The Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., emphasized the significance of this program. “The presence of students and professors from Saga University is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to the internationalization of higher education at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering. Through this program, we aim to provide cross-cultural academic experiences while strengthening joint research collaboration. This aligns with the spirit of the ‘Impactful Campus’ initiative championed by Hasanuddin University,” he stated.

Meanwhile, one of the accompanying professors from Saga University, Dr. Mishima Yuichiro, expressed his appreciation. “We are deeply grateful for the warm welcome extended by the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas. “This program provides our students with the opportunity to learn directly from faculty members, laboratories, and the infrastructure context in Makassar and Gowa. We hope this collaboration will continue to grow in the form of joint research, faculty exchanges, and student mobility in the future,” he said.

This welcoming event is an important part of the Faculty of Engineering’s internationalization initiatives at Unhas, while also supporting the celebration of Hasanuddin University’s 69th anniversary.
