FT Unhas Mengintensifkan Upaya Edukasi Pencegahan HIV bagi Mahasiswa Melalui Kolaborasi Lintas Sektor
Makassar, July 2025 – In an effort to prevent the spread of HIV among students, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) continues to intensify its preventive and collaborative educational and outreach activities. These activities are not only part of the faculty’s internal agenda but also involve active collaboration with the Gowa Regency Health Office and the Bontomarannu Police Precinct.
Since early 2025, FT Unhas has held two HIV prevention outreach sessions: one in March 2025 for the class of 2024 and another in May 2025 for the class of 2023. Education was delivered through interactive discussions, direct counseling, and the distribution of educational materials covering HIV transmission, the importance of early detection, and healthy and responsible lifestyles.
The event featured speakers from the Gowa Regency Health Office, counselors from the Bontomarannu Police Station, as well as faculty members and health professionals who provided a holistic understanding from medical, legal, and social perspectives.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas, Prof. Dr. Eng. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., emphasized that students’ health literacy is a crucial foundation for shaping a resilient campus generation that cares about social issues.
> “We do not want to merely produce academically brilliant engineers, but also a healthy younger generation that is risk-aware and cares for one another. HIV education is not just about personal health, but also a social responsibility,” said Prof. Isran.
Moving forward, the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas is committed to conducting regular HIV prevention awareness sessions every two months, covering all student cohorts on a rotating basis. This cross-sector collaborative strategy is expected to foster a safe, healthy, and well-informed campus culture regarding reproductive health and infectious diseases.
This effort is part of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering’s contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goal of Good Health and Well-being.
