International Student from Iraq Completes Thesis on Traffic Engineering Management in Baghdad and Graduates from the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin
Makassar, 2025 — The Faculty Expert Group (KKD) in Transportation Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, has once again demonstrated its active contribution to nurturing and graduating high-caliber international students. One of its international students, Ahmed Safaa Dawood, successfully completed his thesis defense and was declared to have passed at the Graduation Examination for the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering. Ahmed is a Hasanuddin University student from the Republic of Iraq, pursuing graduate studies with a focus on transportation engineering.
Ahmed’s thesis addressed the topic “Improvement of Traffic Flow on Arterials in Mansour City, Baghdad, Iraq, Using a Microsimulation Model.” This research focuses on urban traffic engineering management, specifically addressing the increasingly complex traffic congestion in the Central Business District (CBD) of Mansour, Baghdad. Using a microscopic simulation-based approach with SIDRA 8 software, this study models the existing conditions at the Al-Liqa’a intersection and analyzes several improvement scenarios.
The thesis defense was held in person in the KKD Transportation Engineering Seminar Room, Department of Civil Engineering, FT-UH. The panel of examiners consisted of Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Sakti Adji Adisasmita, M.Eng., IPU., as First Advisor, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, M.T., IPU., as Second Advisor. The examination panel for this defense consisted of Prof. Dr. Ir. Sumarni Hamid Aly, M.T., IPU., and Dr. Eng. Muralia Hustim, S.T., M.T.
After successfully completing the defense, Ahmed was declared to have passed and was awarded the Master of Engineering (M.T.) degree. Subsequently, a Graduation Ceremony was held, presided over by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, M.T., IPU., as Chair of the Transportation Engineering Study Program (DTS) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin (FT-UH). During the ceremony, Prof. Isran officially announced the evaluation results and congratulated Ahmed on his graduation as an international graduate of the Master of Civil Engineering Program.
