The Faculty of Engineering at Unhas Consolidates Efforts to Maintain International Recognition Through IABEE Accreditation for Five Undergraduate Programs
Gowa, June 20, 2025 — The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT-UH) held a workshop on completing the documentation required for IABEE international accreditation as part of a comprehensive and systematic effort to ensure the continued international recognition of five undergraduate programs through the IABEE accreditation process. This event demonstrates FT-UH’s commitment to maintaining the international status of its engineering programs, as required by national regulations and global standards established by the Washington Accord.
The workshop was held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Dean Hall, 3rd Floor, COT Building, FT-UH, and involved faculty management, the Chair and Secretary of GPMPR, the Associate Deans, the Program Study Quality Assurance Unit (UPM-PS), as well as faculty members from the five departments whose study programs are currently undergoing the international accreditation process. The five study programs are: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Geological Engineering.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr.Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM AER., who in his remarks emphasized that success in maintaining and obtaining international recognition depends not only on the completeness of documentation but also on the strength of teamwork, consistency in implementing a learning outcomes-based curriculum, and the effectiveness of an integrated internal quality assurance system.
Ir. Abdul Mufti Radja, ST., MT., Ph.D., as Chair of the GPMPR FT-UH, directly facilitated all workshop sessions. He explained that this event was not merely a technical forum, but rather a means of strategic cross-unit coordination to align perspectives, formulate strategies, and directly assist in the process of refining accreditation documentation in accordance with the criteria set by IABEE (Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education), a national accreditation body internationally recognized as a full member of the Washington Accord.
The five involved study programs are at different stages in the IABEE accreditation process. The Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Electrical Engineering programs are entering the reaccreditation phase, as their previous accreditation periods will expire in 2026. The Geological Engineering program currently holds interim accreditation status and is preparing follow-up documentation to obtain full accreditation before the same deadline. Meanwhile, the Mechanical Engineering program is a new participant in the IABEE accreditation scheme; it previously held international accreditation from ASIIN (Germany) valid through 2026 and is now transitioning toward recognition under the Washington Accord through IABEE.
This policy aligns with the 2024 Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation, which states that all engineering programs in Indonesia can only obtain international recognition if they are accredited by institutions that are members of the Washington Accord, such as ABET (United States), JABEE (Japan), and IABEE (Indonesia). Therefore, the Faculty of Engineering at UH is taking proactive steps to ensure that the process of preparing and completing the accreditation documentation is carried out in a structured and well-documented manner.
In this workshop, participants received direct technical guidance from three key speakers: Prof. Dr. Ir. Amil Ahmad Ilham, ST., M.IT., serving as First Vice Dean; Ir. Abdul Mufti Radja, ST., MT., Ph.D., serving as Chair of the GPMPR; and Dr.Eng. Ir. Fakhruddin, ST., M.Eng., serving as Secretary of the GPMPR. The material presented included an explanation of IABEE criteria, the results of the most recent technical meeting with IABEE, the standard format for faculty members’ Curriculum Vitae (CVs), the course portfolio format, as well as discussion sessions and hands-on practice in completing the documents.
The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of the document submission deadline and the presentation of plans for ongoing monitoring and evaluation by the GPMPR team. This entire series of activities demonstrates the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas’s commitment to building an international-standard academic quality system that is not merely fulfilled on paper but is also tangibly implemented in the processes of education, teaching, and learning assessment.
