The Faculty of Engineering at Unhas Prepares to Launch a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemical Engineering at the Gowa Campus and Two PSDKU Programs at the Jakarta Campus
Gowa, June 22, 2025 — The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT-UH) held a workshop to finalize the documents for the launch of new degree programs on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Dean Hall on the 3rd floor of the Center of Technology (CoT) building on the Gowa Campus. The event was officially opened by the Dean of FT-UH, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., AER.
This workshop represents a strategic step toward finalizing the proposal documents for the launch of three new degree programs that will be operated at two different locations. The Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program is designed to operate at the Gowa Campus as a concrete step toward meeting the need for undergraduate education in the field of chemical engineering. This program will strengthen the institution’s capacity to produce graduates with high competencies in process engineering, chemical technology, and innovation—all of which support the development of the national chemical industry, which increasingly demands sustainability and technological efficiency.
Meanwhile, the other two degree programs—the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering and the Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering—are designed to operate at the Jakarta Campus under the Off-Campus Degree Program (PSDKU) scheme. The launch of these two graduate programs is part of Unhas’s academic expansion strategy aimed at reaching strategic national regions, particularly to facilitate the enhancement of engineering human resources capacity in the capital region and its surroundings. The PSDKU programs are expected to provide more flexible and adaptive access to advanced engineering education for professionals and graduates who wish to pursue further studies without having to relocate to Makassar.
The event was attended by faculty leaders, internal reviewers from the FT-UH, task force teams from each study program, as well as representatives from quality assurance and academic administration. The primary objective of the workshop was to ensure that all academic documents, curricula, management plans, and administrative requirements comply with the regulations of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek) and the university’s internal quality standards.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Isran emphasized that the expansion through the launch of these new study programs is part of FT-UH’s long-term strategy to strengthen academic networks and broaden the contribution of engineering higher education at the national level. “The opening of the PSDKU at the Jakarta Campus represents our commitment to being present at the epicenter of national development, while the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemical Engineering at the Gowa Campus is a concrete response to the chemical industry’s need for high-quality and relevant engineering professionals,” he stated.
The next steps following this workshop include an internal evaluation and approval process by the Faculty of Engineering Senate, followed by the Hasanuddin University Senate, and final approval by the Unhas Board of Trustees (MWA). Once all these processes are completed, the Establishment Decree and Operational Decree for the three degree programs will be issued by the Rector of Hasanuddin University.
The event concluded with the establishment of a timeline for follow-up actions and the assignment of tasks for refining the documents by each Task Force team. With the completion of this process, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University is preparing to introduce a new era of engineering education that is adaptive, responsive, and highly competitive at both the local and national levels.
