The Japanese Ambassador Warmly Welcomed the Opening of the Japan Corner at the Gowa Campus of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin
During a working visit to the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering (FTUH) campus in Gowa, South Sulawesi, on March 1, 2023, Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kenji Kanasugi warmly welcomed the Japan Corner, an initiative launched by FTUH faculty members who are alumni of various universities in Japan. This warm welcome was marked by the signing of a Certificate of Encouragement for the Japan Corner at the FTUH Gowa Campus by Ambassador Kanasugi, witnessed by the Japan Corner initiators and other members of the FTUH academic community. The initiators who were present at the signing of the Japan Corner Certificate of Encouragement at the FTUH Campus included, among others: Prof. Saleh Pallu, Prof. Rudi Jamaluddin, Prof. Adi Maulana, Amil Ahmad Ilham, PhD, Dr. A. Arwin Amiruddin, Dr. Muralia Hustim, and Dr. Hendra Fachri, alumni of Kyushu University; Prof. Jalaluddin Haddade, an alumnus of Saga University; Dr. Dewiani Djamaluddin and Dr. Rachman Rasyid, alumni of Ehime University; Dr. Muhammad Rusman, an alumnus of Toyohashi University of Technology; Dr. Abdul Mufti Radja and Dr. Faisal Mahmuddin, alumni of Osaka University; Prof. Wihardy Tjaronge, an alumnus of Nagoya University; Dr. Muhammad Niswar, an alumnus of Nara Institute of Technology; Dr. Achmad Yasir Baeda, an alumnus of Hiroshima University; and Dr. Azwar Hayat, an alumnus of Kyushu Institute of Technology; as well as Dr. Azwar Hayat, an alumnus of Kyushu Institute of Technology.
The Dean of FTUH, Prof. Muhammad Isran Ramli—who is also an alumnus of Kyushu University—joined Ambassador Kanasugi in signing the certificate of support for the opening of the Japan Corner. He expressed his hope that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Indonesia—particularly among the FTUH academic community—would continue to be maintained by utilizing the Japan Corner as a resource for information on Japanese culture, language, and study opportunities in Japan. In addition to serving as a source of information, the Japan Corner is also expected to serve as a unifying platform for Japanese alumni at FTUH to maintain ongoing good relations and collaboration with the academic communities of universities in Japan.
One of the initiators behind the establishment of the Japan Corner at the FTUH campus, Prof. M. Saleh Pallu, Dean of FTUH from 2002 to 2010, stated that the establishment of the Japan Corner at the FTUH campus is expected to indirectly serve as a hub for information regarding cooperative activities aimed at developing relations between Indonesia and Japan. Furthermore, Prof. Saleh Pallu, an alumnus of Kyushu University in Japan, expressed his hope that the Japan Corner at the Gowa Campus—where 60% of the faculty are alumni of Japanese universities—would play a greater role in providing information on scholarship opportunities for members of the FTUH academic community who wish to pursue further studies or conduct research in Japan.
At the conclusion of the event, during the signing of the Certificate of Encouragement marking the establishment of the Japan Corner, the Dean of FTUH, Prof. Isran, expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Kanasugi for his willingness to support the establishment of the Japan Corner on the FTUH campus. “I hope that the Japan Corner, which has received direct support and a warm welcome from Ambassador Kanasugi, will continue to grow and that the friendship between Japan and Indonesia will become even closer in the future,” concluded Prof. Isran Ramli.
