To Strengthen Disaster Research Networks, RIDE FT Unhas Collaborates with RURDR at Ehime University in Japan
To strengthen and enhance research capacity and networks in the field of disaster mitigation engineering, the Research Institute for Disaster Engineering (RIDE) at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas), has established a partnership with the Research Unit on Regional Disaster Resilience (RURDR) at the Graduate School of Engineering Science, Ehime University, Japan. The partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the two parties.
Held in the Dean’s Office of the FT Unhas on Thursday morning (March 9, 2023), the Head of RIDE FT Unhas, Prof. M. Isran Ramli—who also serves as Dean of the FT Unhas—was accompanied by the Chair of RIDE FT Unhas, Dr.Eng. Ardy Arsyad, as well as several RIDE FT Unhas board members, including Dr.Eng. Achmad Yasir Baeda, Dr.Eng. Hendra Fachri, and Dr.Eng. Abd Rahman Rasyid, and Dr.Eng. Irwan Setiawan, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Prof. Tsuyoshi Hatori, Head of the RURDR at Ehime University. Also present from Ehime University were Prof. N.P. Bhandary, Assoc. Prof. Y. Fujimori, and two civil and environmental engineering students from Ehime University. During the signing ceremony, the Head of the Unhas Center for Disaster Studies, Dr.Eng. Ilham Alimuddin, was present alongside the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering and the Executive Board of RIDE FT Unhas.
The initial implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement between the two parties was marked by the holding of an international symposium on the theme of “Disaster Risk Reduction and Regional Resilience.” At this small-scale symposium, held in LT1 of the CSA Building on the FT Unhas campus in Gowa, speakers included faculty members and disaster researchers specializing in engineering from both institutions. The speakers presented the results of collaborative research between the two parties in the field of disaster mitigation engineering.
