Hasanuddin University’s Faculty of Engineering Hosts the CEO of PT Nindya Karya for a Public Lecture on Project Management
The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, once again held a public lecture titled Project Management with the theme “The Application of Quality Management Systems in Construction Projects”. The event took place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Lecture Theater 2 on the 2nd floor of the CSA Building, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, and was open to the public.
This public lecture featured the CEO of PT Nindya Karya and practicing lecturer at the Hasanuddin University College of Engineering, Ir. Firmansyah, S.T., M.T., IPU, as the keynote speaker. Meanwhile, the event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM. AER., and moderated by Allida Maharani, a 2022 Civil Engineering student.
In his presentation, Ir. Firmansyah explained the importance of implementing a quality management system in construction projects to ensure that all stages of the work proceed in accordance with technical specifications, quality standards, and user requirements. He emphasized that quality management does not only focus on the final outcome of the project but also encompasses the processes of planning, control, and continuous quality improvement.
The lecture covered various key aspects of construction quality management, ranging from construction project regulations and the application of ISO 9001:2015 to the implementation of the Construction Safety Management System (SMKK) based on Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation No. 10 of 2021. In addition, participants gained an understanding of the correlation between ISO international standards and national construction practices through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach.
Ir. Firmansyah also explained the main elements of a quality management system as outlined in the PMBOK, namely the Quality Plan, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control. According to him, these three elements form the foundation for ensuring that construction projects meet established standards.
During the Quality Assurance session, participants were introduced to various forms of quality assurance, such as conducting quality induction for workers and performing Quality Management System audits based on ISO 9001:2015. Meanwhile, in the Quality Control segment, the speaker outlined the quality inspection process—from material inspection and supervision of ongoing work to the final inspection of construction work.
This event was met with great enthusiasm from students and the general public because it provided firsthand insight into the implementation of quality management in the construction industry. The public lecture was also part of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin’s efforts to bring industry practitioners into the academic environment to strengthen students’ competencies as they prepare to enter the professional workforce.
